Bio: A Gwich'in Athabascan, Steve was born in Fort Yukon, Alaska where he attended high school. Following graduation, he then served in the U.S. Army before attending the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Steve served as President of Tanana Chiefs Conference, Inc. (TCC) from 1999-2002. Prior to TCC Steve served in many service-oriented capacities, including Chief and City Manager for Fort Yukon; Chairman for Alaska Inter-Tribal Council (AITC); TCC Board member; Doyon limited; Council for Athabascan Tribal Governments (CATG); Yukon Flats School District; and area Vice President to the National Congress of American Indians (NAIHC).

Steve has long been recognized as an advocate for self-governance and subsistence rights for Alaska Natives with particular focus on fisheries, self-determination, and recognition of Tribal Governments. Steve has twenty years of experience in planning, programming, and policy development.

Steve's interests are subsistence hunting, fishing, dog mushing, basketball and other sports.

Board and Commissions: Steve has served on the Doyon, Ltd Board U.S./Canada Yukon River Fish Negotiation, Alaska Association of School Boards, Tanana Chiefs Conference, Alaska Intertribal Council, National Congress of American Indians, and Native Village of Fort Yukon.
